let's talk about sharing the wealth,
or how that definitely doesn't exist here in HK, or i guess anywhere else i've lived (read: the good ol' USA)
i was reading through my google reader on a lazy saturday afternoon, a rare one, indeed, as i am a "working girl" after all (tutoring!) and came upon a new blog suggestion called "cantopopped." this blogger had the most interesting observations about HK, many of which i found myself agreeing to, especially after having worked here for a month or so. scroll down to older posts, made mostly when said blogger was living in HK. it's a very good read and brings about new understanding to the inequalities and injustices of working/living in HK.

proximity without intimacy, dante's hell, defined
i am currently reading melissa bank's The Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing. "enjoying" (??) my saturday night at home. today i woke up, had breakfast, surfed the net. made lunch (grilled cheese and scrambled egg on "milk" bread), surfed the net some more, took a shower. went off to kowloon tong's pacific coffee company to tutor a lady. shopped at taste (bought dinner, pesto chicken salad), went grocery shopping at park 'n shop. had dinner, prepared all the veggies bought for the week, and put on some as tall as lions (via youtube). i found this quote, proximity without intimacy as i sat down to read this book. the end.

where will i be in a year?
probably back in the US ... we shall see.
right now, typhoon koppu is blowing through HK. the kiddies from my afternoon class stayed home due to HK observatory issuing a T3 warning. tonight's dinner plans to celebrate a friend's 27th was canceled due to the T8 warning. o well. we'll just have to reschedule before he leaves for san diego.
last night, i realized most of my friends/social network here might be gone by fall 2010. the thought sorta (read: REALLY) scares me and i think i might come running back to the US with my tail between my legs, so to speak. or maybe i can say i shall make my triumphant return to the US after a two year hiatus.
here's hoping to a T3 warning tomorrow morning and a quiet night of ceylon tea and quiet reading.

let me bore you with my life
rent, electricity, gas, water, credit card, student loan bills will all be due towards the end of the month, but before my second paycheck. that worries me, but it's really not worth delving into for this blog.
today, i woke up at 7:30, then again at 8:30 (as per my usual sunday routine). after a quick mini "grilled" cheese sammie and shower, the roomie and i headed to wanchai to get a cuppa joe at a friend's coffee shop. it was a good cup of coffee indeed, and i also got myself a salmon & cream cheese bagel! delish. afterwards, i head off to the vine for their 11:30 service. it's always very refreshing to go and praise the lord and listen to his word on sunday. after church, i headed to hong kong central library (in causeway bay). i spent two hours there and was overwhelmed by the shear numbers of people there. the trek home was a trek indeed. i walked approximately 10+ minutes down causeway bay road, toward yee wo street (which turns into hennessey rd). along the way, i must've passed 1000s of indonesian maids sitting and sleeping on the street. afterall, this is their one day off. thankfully, i made it to the MTR and came back to diamond hill for an early dinner of pasta. the end.

blog now so i don't forget later
... cuz i know i'll regret it if i forget
i forgot about an old favorite, goo goo dolls. so many good songs: black balloon, iris, and slide.
could you whisper in my ear, the things you wanna feel, i'll give you anything, to feel it comin'
do you wake up on your own, and wonder where you are, you live with all your faults,
i wanna wake up where you are, i won't say anything at all, so why don't you slide.
evokes pleasant memories of simpler times when i wasn't going through a quarter-life crisis. i'm not sure if i'm enjoying my 25th year. i'm leaving for hong kong, again, on saturday. 3 PM flight from newark.
we should recap what i've done this past week, in non-chronological order, listed as i remember them:
i went to maggiano's with J, S, and A. the dinner special was $12.95 for half portions and half portions to take home! S has a huge house. amazing. shopped at king of prussia. it was kinda like manic window shopping cuz all the stores were closing. had hope's icecream for dessert, but none of their cookies. i really love moosetracks. earlier in the day i went to starbucks with J and ordered their strawberry banana vivanno, but without the banana. had dinner at PYT (@ the piazza in northern liberties) -- the burger was slightly disappointing as it was served with a possibly-supermarket-bought burger bun, the adult milkshake was alright, and the onion rings were a greasy delight. i was too full for rita's waterice. guess that will have to wait for my next visit. had lunch at distrito ($15 for drink, appetizer, entree) with my former boss. shopped for vitamins at CVS. i miss cvs. had lunch at continental with SC. their green submarine (avec alfalfa sprouts) was fun. got myself an italian @ potbelly one day (lunch with norma). super sweet of norma to let me stay at her place during my visit. it was absolutely LOVELY staying so close to rittenhouse square. didn't get much shopping done, though.
today i took the bus to brooklyn and hung out on 8th ave. had me a viet sandwich (delish!!) and some viet ice coffee. i really like catching up with old friends ... but i guess therein lies the problem. catching up implies a time of separation. if people stayed together all the time, there would be no catching up because they were there when the event happened. so yea ... basically, i think everyone should move to hong kong this coming year. we'd all have a lot of fun. random!!!! it's late. i should sleep.
g'night
